Apalachin Firemen Field Days Parade

The band will be participating in this years Apalachin Firemen Field Days Parade.

When?: June 4 - 7, 2008

Time?: Parade starts at 6:00 PM, but they want us all to meet at the church parking lot across the street from the firehouse on Pennsylvania Ave. in Apalachin at 5:00pm. Warm up party at the Youman's house will be at 4:00pm.

Uniform?: We will be wearing our green Kazoo Band t-shirts (short or long sleeve). Any type of hat is permitted. Don't forget beads!

Nancy and Gary Youmans (he is our groupie - you may have seen him at 25 different places during the Syracuse parade cheering us on) live in Apalachin and have offered to have their house as a meeting point an hour prior to parade ... it is going to be a beer and dog gathering (hot dogs that would be!). This way we can organize car pools for those who wish to do so. I know we need to have vehicles for the drums, banner, flags, etc. at both ends. I think this is very gracious of Nancy and Gary to offer their home to "the likes of us!!" THANKS YOUMANS!!!!

RSVP
We would like to get a approximate head count for this event .... I know some of you have dropped me a note prior but I was hoping you could do so once again. After all we want to make she we have enough DOGS!! oh and KAZOOERS!!!!

Parade Day Wrap Up

Can you believe our 17th year marching in Binghamton has come and gone!! What a fast season this was!!! But for those going to Syracuse we will have another parade ahead of us! YEA!!!

SYRACUSE:
Just wanted to let you know for those going to Syracuse we will have a practice NEXT Thursday, MARCH 13th, same time and place (7:00, the Moose). We will fill you in on all the info. Even though the bus is full we still have several cars following the bus up...a mini Kazoo Convoy!!! So if you are still interested in joining us please do! Come to the meeting and find out all the info. Attached is a bus list (see below also), cars following, and waiting list for bus. If you can not make it please let us know so we can move one of the folks onto the bus from the list.

I want to thank everyone for such a great year!! This year we had 92 returning Kazooers and 39 newbies! What a year!!!

We want to thank Ben, Kay, Lynn, Bob, Tracy. Craig, and Erin (I think I got everyone) for the wonderful float and the queens chariot. The detail was amazing .... if you did not see the detail you need to go back and look at some of Steve's Pictures. I know Ben and Kay spent weeks working on this project. THANKS TO THE FLOAT TEAM!

Thanks also to our Balloon team who always cease to amaze me on how fast they can blow up and organize all those balloons. Thanks also to the JELLO shot folks and for those wonderful Choc Baileys puddings. I have heard several folks wanting the recipes for the tri-color jello shots (they looked like the Irish flag) ... so please send and I will post!!

Thank You Kazooers for you kind donations to CHOW, our barrels were picked up on Monday. Thanks Ben for this great idea, and Jon for arranging all the drop off and pick up times. And Cheeser for meeting the CHOW folks at the Moose. I think we should do this every year!!!

Wolf Tones:
Since many folks and drummers can not make Wolfe Tone gig on March 17th we decided NOT to do this. You will have to purchase your tickets on your own. We have already reserved many seats and hope to see you all there. I think you can buy these at Giant Markets, or call or stop by the AOH they will have information for sure. Hope to see you there, last concert was a lot of fun. They do have an open bar to purchase drinks prior to concert and they can be brought into the room. Get there early for good seats!!

And of course thanks to Jon and Mary for all the hard work they put into not only doing the hats but also leading the sweatshirt painting each year. This year we had over 31 people paint shirts!!

And last but no least thanks to our drummers for helping us keep the street beat ..... ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE DRUMMERS ....they would like to add more drummers and perhaps another bell babe, so if you so choose to join us, drop us a note .... we are thinking Bode on snare so that means another cymbal player. We will look at getting more drums and starting drum practice this summer. Snare, base, cymbals, bodhran????

Parade Day Details

Some last minute parade day details...

The parade starts at 1pm. You can arrive at the Moose Club anytime after 10am. If you can, arrive early and help us blow up balloons!

Please wear your kazoo band sweatshirt and hat. If you were not able to make a sweatshirt, then please just wear a white sweatshirt. This is mandatory to march with us in the parade. Also, please remember that there is no drinking on the parade route. There is plenty of time for that before and after the parade!

Following the parade, there is a party at the Knight of Columbus in Binghamton's South Side. Admission is free to kazoo band members, but you must get a wrist band from us before the parade if you plan on attending. The party features several of the pipe bands from the parade, and oh yeah, FREE BEER!

See you on Saturday!

Practice Four In The Can

Well Practice four is now past and only three more practices left! You know what that means, three weeks from this very hour(10:30)we will be getting those
Jell-O shots ready sample at the Moose for the pre-parade warm up party!!

Practice four was held at the AOH, it may have been a little "cozy" but I was so pleased with how good you guys all sounded. Maybe sitting so close to your fellow kazooers joined you all in unity! I want to thank Tracy and Jon for their adaptations of body movements and songs!! Great job!! *smile*

Out trusty head counter says we had 67 folks at practice, still a good turnout. Along with our seasoned Kazoo aficionados, we welcome yet more "newbies" to our growing kazoo family. Welcome Angel, Therese, Ellen, Jennifer, Judy, Sara, and returning member Mary. We hope you enjoy what we call "The High Holy Season" Some may celebrate St. Patrick's Day, the Kazoo Band celebrates "The Season."

This weeks practice will be back at the Moose. It also falls on Valentines Day (maybe Jon will buy us all chocolates) *smile*.

Sweatshirt Painting is Saturday Feb. 23rd at 10:00 am, bring a white sweatshirt and a hanger to transport your shirt home to avoid mishaps. Remember to buy your shirt a little larger. Paint is $3.25, all items will be provided, along with instructions on what you will need to do. AS I have said before, if you can not make sweatshirt painting please wear a white sweatshirt on parade day and we will supply green sashes for you to pin on your shirt. If you do not have a white shirt you can not march.

Parade Day we will need TWO banner carries (also with white shirts or Kazoo shirts)I believe two of our newbies Erin and Chris are working this. Please keep us posted E&C.

REMEMBER to bring your food donations for CHOW to practice, Jon has called up and ordered a third barrel.

Wrap-Up-Party is a GO! We will send out more information in March. We need firm RSVP's so we know how much food to order. The Date is Saturday, April 26th, Pat Kane will be playing. We take over the entire AOH hall and pub, it is a closed party just for kazoo members and guests. A fun time is had by all!!

I leave you with this Irish verse:

An Irish Person is never drunk
As long as he can hold onto one
blade of grass and not fall off
the face of the earth!!
